NY City Council Committee Anti-BDS Resolution Vote is Tomorrow!
Last week, we let you know about a hearing in the New York City Council on an anti-boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) resolution, 1058-A, which condemns BDS.
After this hearing where anti-BDS voices where challenged by testimony from those who support free speech and Palestinian rights, the Contracts Committee is still set to vote on this resolution tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14. If it passes the committee, it will be voted on by the full City Council.
Let’s make sure that the New York City Council knows how much support exists for Palestinian rights, so call and write to the Council today!
Here’s contact info for the Chair of this committee, and the Speaker of the City Council. The vote is happening tomorrow, Wednesday, September 14, so please call and write to them to express your opposition to Resolution #1058-A today!
Chair: Helen K. Rosenthal, (212) 788-6975, Helen@HelenRosenthal.com
The resolution has no teeth, but it’s still a dangerous way to chill free speech and undermine the movement for Palestinian rights, especially following New York Governor Cuomo’s anti-BDS Executive Order.
Folks like you, as well as local groups on the ground, such as Freedom to Boycott–New York, which includes US Campaign member groups, displayed a show of force at last week’s hearing. Now is the time to carry this momentum forward, so make sure to call and write to these City Council members today!
Thanks for taking action to show your support for Palestinian freedom, justice and equality!
