COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

REPORTS TO: Communications Director

POSITION TYPE: Full-time

COMPENSATION: $65,460-$68,460, depending on years of experience

SUMMARY

The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) is hiring a full-time Communications Associate to join our close-knit team of passionate individuals dedicated to advancing Palestinian rights at the intersection of grassroots organizing, policy change, and popular education. 

The Communications Associate will work directly with the Communications Director to implement USCPR’s communications strategy and support the organization’s programmatic campaigns with a focus on managing social media (40%), graphic design and content creation (40%), maintaining USCPR’s websites (15%), and monitoring and evaluation of communications activities (5%). 

The ideal candidate will be creative, well-organized, detail-oriented, passionate about justice, well-informed about the Palestinian struggle for freedom (and ideally its connections with other justice movements), a strong writer and proofreader, and self-starting. You will have an eye for design, familiarity with branding best practices, and experience creating content for and managing professional social media accounts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing USCPR’s official social media channels, including monthly content curation;
  • Developing graphics, videos, and other digital and social media content, including political education slides for Instagram;
  • Maintaining and updating USCPR websites on WordPress and Squarespace platforms, including adding posts and media hits;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of communications activities, reporting against metrics laid out in the communications strategy;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of communications, development, and programmatic campaigns;
  • Designing direct mail appeals, and other print materials as needed;
  • Loading emails and action tools in EveryAction;
  • Supporting communications efforts for USCPR’s national conference, events, and webinars;
  • Other copyediting, writing, email program, and media support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1-3 years experience in digital communications (internships counted)
  • Demonstrably excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Advanced graphic design skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva
  • Video editing in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • WordPress
  • Familiarity with EveryAction
  • Well-versed in the movement for Palestinian liberation
  • Arabic language skills a major plus

MANAGER OF POLICY & ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS

REPORTS TO: Organizing & Advocacy Director 

HOURS: Full-time

START DATE: Mid to end of May 2023 (accepting applications until EOD April 7, 2023)

LOCATION: Washington, DC

COMPENSATION: $73,460-$91,460, depending on years of relevant experience 

USCPR seeks a Manager of Policy & Advocacy Campaigns who will advance our policy priorities to key allies and decision makers on both the national and local level in service of our agenda: an end to US support for Israel until there is freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people. 

Under the direction of the Organizing & Advocacy Director, and in coordination with the rest of the programs team, including the Manager of Congressional & Grassroots Advocacy and National Field Organizer, this position will be primarily responsible for developing and executing a strategy and campaigns to build power to advance our policy agenda, with a focus on engaging and mobilizing progressives, communities of color, and civil/human rights organizations.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Development and implementation of campaigns to achieve the organization’s policy priorities through advocacy with elected officials. 
  • Cultivating and building powerful relationships with key policymakers and stakeholders in DC to advance our policy agenda. 
  • Cultivating key relationships with progressive policy organizations and building coalitions to further our national campaigns and advance national transformative legislation
  • Collaboratively developing policy analysis and concepts in support of USCPR campaigns and strategic priorities with staff and partners
  • Helping organize opportunities to bring grassroots partners in contact with Members of Congress and other policymakers. 
  • Rapid response to policy and advocacy developments on the national level. 
  • Engaging in public speaking, writing, and media work with direction from the Communications Director.
  • Supporting the Director of Organizing and Advocacy in implementation of C4 arm of organization

Qualifications include: 

  • At least 2 years experience in policy and/or electoral work 
  • Some experience in electoral politics and/or C4-related programs
  • Strong knowledge of and experience building relationships with national, state and local organizational players engaged in foreign policy and/or social justice advocacy 
  • Experience organizing in/with communities of color and/or building progressive organizing efforts, particularly in Black, Latinx, and/or Indigenous communities
  • Understanding of grassroots and grasstops organizing 
  • Ability to juggle multiple streams of work, prioritize, and problem solve
  • Strong people skills and exceptional team player
  • Effective communicator—both written and oral 
  • Willingness and ability to travel 
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage details, work independently, and follow through with a minimum of direct supervision
  • Demonstrated commitment to USCPR’s mission, vision, and principles

Skills desired but not required: 

  • Strong understanding of legal parameters for electoral organizing in both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) contexts.
