The olive harvest in Palestine is one of the most significant cultural and economic activities of the year. Olive trees symbolize the Palestinian connection to the land, and provide livelihoods and sustenance for thousands of farming families every year.
Olive trees are synonymous with Palestinian resistance and resilience – and that makes them a target of the brutal Israeli occupation. Since 1967, Israel has destroyed nearly 800,000 olive trees, an attempt to erase family and community traditions that are rooted in the land.
That’s why USCPR has partnered with the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA) since 2010 to plant over 18,000 olive trees across Palestine. With the olive harvest season in full swing already, we’re gearing up to launch this year’s Rooting Resistance campaign to continue supporting Palestinian farmers.
Our efforts are particularly important this year as farmers struggle to cope with the instability brought on by COVID-19, coupled with the challenges of living under Israeli military occupation. Over the next several weeks, we hope to raise enough funds to plant over 3,400 olive trees in Palestine and support USCPR’s cutting-edge work for Palestinian rights.
Through Rooting Resistance, every donation of $25 plants an olive sapling in Palestine and helps USCPR continue advocating for freedom, justice and equality. Your generous support will root resistance for generations to come and help those who are most vulnerable, including young farmers, people just starting out, women and those impacted by illegal Israeli settlements.
You can make this year’s campaign an even bigger success by setting up a community fundraising page and sharing it with your friends and family.
Setting up your fundraiser is simple. It only takes a moment to do, and when you join with us to plant olive trees in Palestine, you’ll feel good investing in a better future and making it easy for your friends and family to do so as well.
