Take Action This Nakba Day: Defend Masafer Yatta!

Rise-Up-600

As the Palestinian people rise up globally, I’m asking you to take one minute right now to act in solidarity: Email Congress to defend Masafer Yatta.

Shireen Abu-Aqleh, the beloved and legendary Palestinian journalist killed by Israeli soldiers on Wednesday, was dishonored in death when Israeli forces brutally assaulted mourners in Jerusalem. We can commit to honor her with action. As she famously said:

“In the hard moments, I overcame fear. I chose journalism to be close to the people. It might not be easy to change reality, but at least I can bring their reality to the world.”

The recent rise in Israeli assaults on Palestinian life has created a terrifying moment. Now is the time to force the world to face Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people, and the U.S. weapons and diplomatic backing that enable it.

There’s one action you can take right now: Masafer Yatta, located near Hebron in Palestine, is home to thousands of native Palestinian people who have existed on this land for generations upon generations. Israel’s colonial courts greenlighted their mass expulsion, the largest since 1967. 1,300 Palestinians in Masafer Yatta face ethnic cleansing at any moment, and 2,400 have their homes under threat.

Now, only international outrage can stop this catastrophe in Masafer Yatta, the same way people raising their voices in solidarity worldwide stopped forced expulsions in Sheikh Jarrah, Palestine, and forced the fall of apartheid in South Africa three decades ago.

Take action now by emailing Congress and protesting in the streets.

On this 74th anniversary of the Nakba, we are also at the one year anniversary of an uprising that awed the world: during the Unity Intifada that began in May 2021, Palestinian people rose up from Jerusalem to Haifa, from Gaza to Amman, to every corner of the Palestinian diaspora across the globe.

Today, Palestinian people are still holding fast to life, love, and liberation by rising up for justice. So take action now and then use our toolkit to find a protest and a sign to take to the streets. Thank you for rising up with us.
