“No Other Land” Wins Oscar For Best Documentary

No Other Land Documentary

Last night, history was made as No Other Land took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary—the first Oscar ever awarded to a Palestinian filmmaker.

The Story Behind The No Other Land Documentary

This powerful film documents the exact crisis our communities have been mobilizing around: Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in Masafer Yatta, and its invasion and genocidal attacks across the West Bank.

The film shows Israeli forces demolishing homes, destroying a school, and even filling water wells with cement to prevent Palestinians from rebuilding on their native land.

For generations, Palestinian families in Masafer Yatta have resisted Israel’s violent attempts to uproot them.

No Other Land Acceptance Speech Spotlights Masafer Yatta

In his acceptance speech, Palestinian co-director Basel Adra spoke directly about the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people, calling on the world to “take serious actions to stop the injustice.” Adra’s film focuses on his own village, Masafer Yatta, where over 1,000 Palestinian residents, including 500 children, face imminent forced displacement and constant settler violence.

His call-to-action comes at a critical moment. While the film was being celebrated in Los Angeles, Israel cut off all humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and continued its genocidal rampage across the West Bank.

The whole world is watching.

The Palestinian creators working on this film risked everything to break through heavy censorship and bring this truth to light. Palestinians are the narrators of our own stories and our own struggles for freedom.

How To Watch No Other Land In The U.S.

There is no U.S. distributor for No Other Land at the moment, meaning the only way to watch the film is to find an indie theater screening near you. When activists let us know they’ve organized a No Other Land screening, we add them to our protest page.

No Other Land has been systematically sidelined by major studios and streaming platforms despite being the highest-grossing Oscar-nominated documentary. The truth is being suppressed, but last night’s historic recognition ensures the world can no longer look away.
