Seattle: Shabbat Honoring Resistance & Mourning Lives Lost in Gaza

May 18, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Shabbat Honoring Resistance & Mourning Lives Lost in Gaza

This year on May 15th, we mark 70 years of resistance since the Nakba (Arabic for “the catastrophe”)—the forced displacement of approximately 750,000 Palestinians that began with the establishment of the Israeli state in 1948. For the past 7 weeks, Palestinians have been protesting in Gaza every Friday to demand an end to Israel’s violent occupation and for their right of return to their homeland. The peaceful resistance of the #GreatReturnMarch has been met with militarized violence from the IDF. Since March 30th, the Israeli military has killed 45 Palestinians and wounded nearly 7,000 others.

Please join us in a public Shabbat ritual to honor ongoing Palestinian resistance and mourn lives lost in Gaza. We will gather at the youth jail site on 12th and Alder to support the #NoNewYouthJail campaign and acknowledge the interconnections of movements against state violence. We ask that you wear black and bring a rock/stone to contribute to a ritual of mourning.

Friday, May 18th, 6pm – 7pm
